Executive Summary Because of the fast growing population of the city there is a large amount of organic solid waste being produced from Hawassa that is about 110605.4kg per day which is the largest proportion of its content is organic. This huge waste has not been properly managed and because of this the environmental pollution has been increased with negative impact on soil, water and air human health. The objectives of the project is to bring about sustainable recycling & reuse of organic solid waste in the city by using recycling method or composting to reduces greenhouse gas emissions from landfills or open dumps, to create job opportunity and generate income and, reduce poverty at local, regional and national levels, and to reuse in horticulture for greenery & planting trees for carbon storage in areas of water - shade or alternatively be used as landfill cover or used for closure of open dumps. The project site is located in Hawassa City around Textile Factory. SNNPRs Trade Industry & Urban Development Office, Urban Sanitation, Beautification, Development, Park Service Core Process and Hawassa Municipality are the implementing agencies. The project activities include bidding and bid approval, conducting construction, purchase of motor cycle, handing over to municipality, handing over to MSE, training document preparation, purchase of training materials, giving training in two rounds for 120 trained stake holders, constructing composting site and follow up. Total cost required for the project is 47,727.86USD.
