Executive Summary Most parts of Tigray regional state are categorized byareas with high rate of deforestation and severe soil erosion, which resulted from improper land use system, rugged topography, harsh climate and poor inherent soil conditions. This project is aimed to address the on-going natural resources degradation and vulnerability of communities to climate change impacts through the introduction and adoption of integrated forest development and management interventions. Hence, the project is relevant to both the resilience building and the green growth components of the national Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) strategy. The project will primarily be implemented by the Tigray Regional Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Development (BoARD) in association with the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MEF). There will be also active participations from the local community, local administration, MoFED/BoFED, research and higher institutions, cooperatives, unions and other stakeholders. The key project activities are: (1)planting 5000 ha of degraded lands with multipurpose indigenous/exotic species,(2) rehabilitating4500ha of degraded lands through the construction of various soil and water conservation measures, (3) improving the livelihood of 3000 households through the introduction of agroforestry technologies and other livelihood options (e.g., beekeeping, poultry), and (4) enhances institutional capacity by creating Farmers’ Management of Natural Resources(FMNR)teams/groups and offering 3 capacity building training for 1543stakeholders. Implementation of the proposed project requires 390,385 USD.
