Executive Summary The natural forests in the project areas of Awale, Adada and Belewa kebeles covers an estimated 480 hectares. These forests are the most biological diverse and carbon-dense forest of the Administration. However, the current population growth, expansion of agricultural frontier, expansion of settlement, increased intensity of livestock feeding, high demand for fuel and construction wood aggravated deforestation. . The project’s major objectives are enhancing forest land security from illegal deforestation by 100% with in the planning period and Enhancing livelihoods of 26% of the household and increase their annual income by 50%. The project will be implemented by Dire Dawa Environmental Protection Authority. The major project activities are establishing protected area and biological corridor, Establishing and strengthening forest protection system, Promoting road side and homestead plantation and agroforestry practice, Establishing Nursery and Production and dissemination of fuel wood saving stove. The total cost of the project is USD 56,100.
